Our Philosophy
The General Wood Shop opened in July of 2023 to provide another option for the LGBTQ+ community (and everyone else too) in Grand Rapids.
Our mission is to offer a friendly, comfortable space with great drinks, great food, and great people — where everyone is welcome. We’re a cocktail bar. We’re a restaurant. We’re a place to chill.
What?
Why the General Wood Shop?
When we were trying to decide on a name for our bar, we combed through old Grand Rapids City directories to see what had been in the same building before us. That’s when we found that in the late 1940s and early 1950s, our space was home to the General Wood Shop. We immediately knew that was the right name!
